Dev Specs
UNITY DEV NEEDED
Gatherlight is a small, cozy 1st person voxel game getting developped in Unity for PC (Steam).
We'll be building the game in Kronnects' Voxel Play toolkit to avoid reinventing any wheels.
We need a developer who can work with Voxel Play to build out Gatherlight's experience.
Unity Assets IN PLAY

Voxel Play
Voxel Play is a well documented and well reviewed Unity toolkit that lets us design and bring to life a voxel world.
It includes:
-
Block-based terrain with dislodging and placing
- First-person controller with smooth movement
- Customizable biomes, skyboxes, water, and weather
-
Full inventory and crafting system
-
Day/night cycle and lighting engine
- Procedural world generation (perhaps unneeded)

Pirates Project
Pirates of Voxel Play is a sample project built on the Voxel Play engine that showcases multiplayer combat. It’s a playable template we can modify or expand—saving time on core mechanics.
- Clean Unity project setup as a head start for our own features
- Menu and UI systems for inventory and settings
- Combat system including health, weapons, and damage logic
-
Player HUD with health, hotbar, inventory UI
- Simple AI and patrol behavior for animals / NPCs
- Server browser / matchmaking for testing multiplayer
- Multiplayer framework using Mirror
Project Overview
The MVP is likely to be a single-player (but built for future multiplayer expansion), handcrafted 3D game—no procedural generation or infinite terrain. The player explores and restores a fixed island (so much smaller than Minecraft), building a home, farming, crafting tools, and interacting with creatures.
Creative Assets
• We’ll supply all art, block textures, sound effects, and music
• Look + feel and key designs for UI
Core Systems
We’ll need the player to:
• Break blocks (like mining trees, dirt, rocks)
• Collect and manage inventory
• Craft tools and items
• Place blocks to build a home
• Plant and harvest crops
• Interact with animals
• Very simple combat with enemies
Visual + Audio Atmosphere
While the graphics are all abstract, simple 16x cubes or planes, there would be a high priority on beautiful, dynamic lighting, water, fog, breeze, and dynamic environmental sounds to create a calm, magical atmosphere. We'd be shooting for the ballpark of a highly modded Minecraft look + feel, but with drastically fewer block types, entities, recipes, and probably no procedural generation.

Additional Unity Store Assets
Depending on how well they play together, these are some other assets that could get us closer to a beautiful game launch.
From Kronnect
Assets from the same developer as the Voxel Play core tool that we might be able to use:
Volumetric Fog & Mist 2
Enables rich volumetric fog, mist zones, and atmospheric depth. Perfect for soft forest clears, haunted groves, or glowing ponds.
Volumetric Lights 2
Adds dynamic lighting effects—god rays, directional shafts, and interactive lights. Great for sun peeking through trees or lantern glow in fog.
Radiant Global Illumination
Lightmapping with baked indirect light and color bleeding for voxel scenes. Helps world feel warm and cohesive—like sunlight spreading across terrain.
Shader Control / Beautify 3 / LUT Packs
Tools for post-processing effects like color grading, bloom, outlines, and stylized filters. Helps edge voxel visuals toward a softer, more painterly aesthetic.
Liquid Volume Pro 2
Real-time water effects with surface ripple, gull waves, and reflection. Could add gentle lapping water, reflective ponds, deeper beach visuals.
Highlight Plus 2
Outline and selection highlighting, useful for UI pointers, menu hover states, or visualizing tooltips in-world (like plotting garden beds or repairing ruins).
Non-Kronnect
Assets from other developers that look promising, depending on how easy they are to incorporate:
COZY: Stylized Weather 3

This could help us manage both crop farming as well as the taming and behavior of pet animals.
FMOD
Audio management
